The full story

Congratulations Gary!

Nepal is the poorest country in South Asia and the fourteenth poorest country in the world.

Resolve International is helping to put smiles on the faces of children from poorer backgrounds in Nepal.

The 20 primary school children we sponsored this year in the rural hills of Western Nepal have just passed this year’s exams.

We have embarked on a programme of building 200 toilets, helping families prevent illness.

This is some of the work which inspired Gary Fleming to support Resolve International during his two month placement, funded by Vodafone’s World of Difference. Gary helped us with fundraising research and by conducting monitoring of the Challenge Nepal pilot project with Lancashire’s Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme.

Gary is experienced in long distance walking and climbing and he became committed to helping some of the Nepalese people he met during time spent in the Himalayan mountains.

It had been some years since Gary had sat in the saddle but he decided to undertake a challenge of cycling 1000 miles from his home in Blackburn to Africa to raise funds which would help us support more children in Nepal. He has used his income from the Vodafone project to fund the challenge.

Gary trained in the ice and snow we had earlier this year.

The weather was not much kinder when he started his challenge, he battled through strong winds and rain as he journed through the English counties.

Camping overnight meant bivoacing.

One night was spent in the comfort of a derilict shed.

The weather was not any better when he reached Spain, snow storms hit just before Gary’s arrival. Morroco was not any kinder. Gary was greeted by rain at the border.

Resolve International is very grateful to Gary Fleming for undertaking this challenge.

It is not too late to make a donation:
