Case Study— note books and pencils for primary schools 3

Shree Praja Jagriti Lower Secondary School, Makwanpur is one of the schools which benefitted from our Books and Pencils project which supplied resources to a total of 3228 children in partnership with RUN Nepal.
The school has 178 students.
The village doesn’t have proper water and sanitation. There is no permanent road and transport is via old buses and tractors which run for 5 to 6 months each in year, but the road is often closed because of flood damage.
The school is located 7 kilometre from Manahari which is a local market of Makwanpur district situated on the main highway.
The students are very poor and are from the Chepang Community.

School attendance and the exam success rates were very low due to the following causes: child marriage, food deficiency, and many parents send their children to work in the city.
When the news of exercise books and pencils arriving at the school, the teachers said that new students were coming enrolling. This campaign has encouraged students to attend school and to study.
Although the cost of exercise books and pencils may seem cheap, many students are deprived of them because their families are too poor to supply them and the schools don’t have the funds either.
